New iPhone Leak Reveals Massive Upgrade

New iPhone Leak Reveals Massive Upgrade:- Apple AAPL -0.47% may have wowed the crowds (and emptied their life savings) with the iPhone X, but new leaks reveal Apple’s biggest upgrade next year could well come on the inside…

Nikkei, the world’s largest financial newspaper, has revealed Apple is set to give millions of customers their number one priority: class leading battery life.

Speaking to two sources Nikkei said Apple is working on an in-house power management chip which will be “the most advanced in the industry” and deliver class leading power consumption monitoring and management. The end result: “expect devices capable of delivering better performance on lower power consumption.”

“Based on Apple’s current plan, they are set to replace partially, or around half of its power management chips to go into iPhones by itself starting next year,” said the first Nikkei source.

Nikkei’s second source confirmed Apple is “indeed developing its own power management chips for iPhones” but was unable to put a time frame on the project saying it was possible the technology could delayed until 2019.

Either way financial markets are taking this news very seriously.

On the publication of Nikkei’s report shares in Dialog, Apple’s current power management chip maker, fell by almost 20%. In 2016 Apple accounted for 74% of Dialog’s revenue so investors are understandably worried. Especially since suppliers Apple cut out in the past were hit so badly some either sold up or went out of business.

Of course for customers what is far more important than stock prices is how long their iPhone lasts on a charge. But the flipside is Apple may simply use this tech to deliver the same battery life with smaller batteries, something that would free up valuable internal space, reduce costs and enable Apple to make its iPhones even thinner.
