Sacramento Kings Agree to Trade DeMarcus Cousins to the Pelicans:- The Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Tyreke Evans, Buddy Hield, Langston Galloway and first- and second-round draft picks this summer, according to multiple news media reports on Sunday night.
The deal will bring together the 6-foot-11 Cousins, who is averaging 27.8 points and 10.6 rebounds this season, and the 6-11 Anthony Davis. Davis was named the All-Star Game’s most valuable player on Sunday after scoring 52 points, which broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 42.
The move sends a message that the Pelicans are committed to a push for the postseason. New Orleans (23-34) entered the All-Star break two and a half games behind the Denver Nuggets for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Cousins will become a free agent in 2018 unless the Pelicans can sign him to an extension.
Hield was one of the nation’s best college players during his senior season at Oklahoma, but he has been inconsistent as a rookie, averaging 8.6 points, after being the No. 6 pick in last year’s N.B.A. draft. Evans was named rookie of the year in Sacramento after the 2009-10 season, and Galloway has been a solid reserve, providing scoring punch from the perimeter.
