Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton recovering after collapsing during speech:- Gov. Mark Dayton collapsed Monday night while delivering his State of the State address.
The Democratic governor, who will turn 70 on Thursday, was giving his vision for 2017 and beyond at the state Capitol when he apparently fell ill.
He was not injured, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, as aides caught the governor as he fell while standing behind a lectern in the House chambers in St. Paul. Dayton appeared to be seated upright and aware shortly after the incident occurred, the paper reported. Legislators immediately adjourned the gathering.
Dayton’s son Eric later said via Twitter that his father was “doing great,” and thanked people for their concern.

Dayton previously fainted at a campaign event last year. His staff faulted overheating and dehydration for the incident.
The speech, which was moved to the University of Minnesota last year due to ongoing renovations at the Capitol, was being held Monday in its traditional setting.
Dayton’s ideas for how to handle a $1.4 billion budget surplus will likely clash with the Republicans who control both chambers of the Legislature for his final two years in office. GOP lawmakers haven’t started assembling their own proposals yet.
A final look at the state’s forecast next month will solidify the budget picture and set the Legislature’s major work for the year in motion.
