OVERVIEW

Genre: Music The purpose of Music Lessons is to learn...and actually ENJOY the process! Unfortunately, not all music students have that experience. My mission as a Music Teacher is to change that! Piano- A lady called me a few months ago about Piano Lessons. She was frustrated that her 2 kids HATED the piano--thanks to some very uptight teachers and strict methods! She came to me in hopes I could turn things around and thereby SAVE the cause. That's what I'm doing...the kids are actually ENJOYING piano now! The more stubborn of the two is currently the most motivated to learn new songs! Drums/Percussion- This is my area of highest expertise. I have taught Drum and Percussion classes for several years at many Utah schools (Utah Valley University, Orem High, Lone Peak High, Lehi High, and Liahona Academy). I have substitute-taught for Drum Set professor Jay Lawrence at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I currently teach at Lakeridge Jr. High in Orem. I make drumming attainable! For example, in a recent Drum Lesson I demonstrated a solo for a young boy who then said: "I just have one question...how in the world am I supposed to do that?!?!" After a good laugh together, I taught him the building blocks of a good solo. He will be performing his own solo soon at our next Student Concert! Music Theory- Scales, Chords, etc. I use original and innovative methods to make Music Theory both enjoyable and easy to grasp! I recently convinced an adult drum student to learn some basic Music Theory...suffice it to say that he is FINALLY understanding things he's always wondered about, which is very exciting to him! Jazz Improvisation- I teach how to improvise melodies and rhythms. In so doing, students begin to understand and truly appreciate the sophisticated and remarkable style of Jazz music!
