OVERVIEW
On June 13, 2008, the African American Museum of Iowa took a tremendous hit from the flooding on the Cedar River in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Museum took every precaution to safeguard its collection, and 90% of the historic treasures have been saved. Thanks to the many volunteers that generously gave of their time, the facility is clean and dry. The Museum plans to reopen in January with an exhibit based on the historical, former town of Buxton, Iowa. A huge job of restoration lies before us but we are determined to rebuild at our current location. In the fall of 2009 the Museum will unveil our new permanent exhibit. The museum estimates that it sustained damage of $720, 000, out of which the insurance company will only cover $70, 000. So, the museum has a burden of $620, 000. In an effort to raise the funds necessary to rebuild this Iowa treasure, the Museum is conduction a community-style online fundraising event on August 22-24 2008. The Count Me in Campaign, initiated and coordinated by C. Paschal Eze, will help the African American Museum of Iowa get back on its feet following the June 2008 Iowa floods that damaged the museum. Donations of $20 and above are welcome from around the world, and as our token of appreciation, donors get to choose to instantly download ebook versions of quality books kindly donated to the Count Me In Campaign by authors in different parts of the US. 100% of all donations go directly to support rebuilding the Museum. The Count Me In Campaign̢۪s goal is to raise $20, 000 in the next three days online. Your $20 donation really counts! Apart from using the news media to spread the message that helping the flood-damaged African American Museum of Iowa get back on its feet is our collective responsibility, and offering nice "thank you" gifts like the ebook edition of Michigan Chronicle senior editor's second book, A Matter of Black Transformation, our hope is that friends and well wishers of the museum like you will share information on this vital online fundraiser with their friends, relatives and neighbors, something the Internet has made so easy. For instance, you could send emails to friends, relatives and neighbors, and some gentle well-spaced-out reminders as August 22 draws near. You could also blog about the online fundraiser, encourage bloggers you know to write about it, call friends, relatives and neighbors on the phone to tell them about it or mention it on your social networking pages on FaceBook, LinkedIn, Squidoo, etc. Thus, if 99 other friends and well wishers of the museum join you in effectively reaching 10 people each, we would have 1000 donors and consequently $20, 000 by the end of the August 22-24 Count Me In Campaign here at http://blog.blackiowa.org. So, why not join those who have already written or called to say "Count Me In"? Please, feel free to email C. Paschal Eze at reputation (no spam) reputationtraining.com or call him at 1-319-351-9695 if you need more information on how you can help spread the message about Count Me In Campaign to your friends, relatives and neighbors so that collectively, we can help the flood-damaged African American Museum of Iowa get back to rendering its very valuable cultural preservation and education services to the community. Count Yourself among those who are willing to help the African American Museum of Iowa recover from the flood of 2008. Go to http://blog.blackiowa.org to donate now.
