Martin T. Heinrich (Born. October 17, 1971, in Fallon, Nevada) is a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate from New Mexico.
Martin T. Heinrich (Born. October 17, 1971, in Fallon, Nevada) is a Democratic member of the U.S. Senate from New Mexico. He is currently serving his first term, having won election to the Senate in 2012. He defeated Hector Balderas in the June 5 Democratic primary and defeated Heather Wilson in the November general election. Prior to assuming his seat in the Senate on January 3, 2013, Heinrich served as a member of the U.S. House, representing the 1st Congressional District of New Mexico. He began his career working as a mechanical engineer at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. Before he became a congressman, Heinrich served as Albuquerque City Council President and as Natural Resources Trustee for the State of New Mexico. Heinrich will first come up for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2018. His term ends January 3, 2019.
Based on analysis of multiple outside rankings, Heinrich is a more moderate left of center Democratic Party vote. As a result, he may break with the Democratic Party line more than his fellow members.
