Cory Gardner (born August 22, 1974, in Yuma, Colorado) may be a Republican member of the U.S. Senate, representing Colorado since 2015. He defeated incumbent Mark Udall (D) to win election to the seat in 2014.

Gardner began his political career as a member of the workers of U.S. legislator Wayne Allard from 2002 to 2005. He was then elective to the Colorado House of Representatives, wherever he served from 2005 to 2010. Gardner then served within the U.S. House, representing Colorado's fourth dominion, from 2011 to 2015.

Based on analysis of multiple outside rankings, Gardner is a mean Republican member of Congress, which means he can vote with the political party on the bulk of bills.

Early life, education, and early political career

Gardner was born on August 22, 1974 in Yuma, Colorado, the son of Cindy L. (nee Pagel) and John W. Gardner. His ancestry includes Irish, German, Austrian, and English. He graduated summa cum laude from Colorado State University with a B.A. in political science in 1997. In college, Gardner switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party and interned at the Colorado State Capitol. He went to law school at the University of Colorado to earn his Juris Doctor in 2001. Gardner served as General Counsel and Legislative Director for former U.S. Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado from 2002 to 2005.
