The update went both ways for many website owners. Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable said that he has seen many screen shots of Google Analytics showing some websites that are completely destroyed. Some recovered in a major way from earlier updates and were back in operation. There were some websites which showed no noticeable changes on their sites since the update took place.
The change over the versions is not much in an analytical way as both of them targets all the same types of links that previous version targeted. The difference is in the manner that Penguin 2.1 is simply a deeper level of analysis than Penguin 2.0. The ability to crawl and analyze deeper level pages to identify and eliminate spam activities is happening at a higher level in the new version.
