Intel launches hyperfast Optane SSD 900P storage with special Star Citizen ship:- Intel is bringing some of its most impressive storage technology to consumers for the first time with its new Intel Optane SSD 900P Series of products. These are Intel’s latest PCIe NVMe 3.0 SSDs that provide much faster read and write times than the aging SATA connection standard.

The 900P comes in 480GB and 280GB capacities, and it is available starting today, according to Intel. This kinda of hyper-fast storage can improve performance for PCs that frequently load massive data sets for jobs like 3D rendering. But, of course, the 900P could also cut down on load times in modern 4K games. Intel also claims that these drives should last up to 22-times longer than other, similar storage drives, which is one of the main reasons it previously focused on selling this tech to businesses.

“The Intel Optane SSD 900P Series brings the workstation-class performance and industry-leading endurance of Intel Optane technology to a client SSD for the first time,” Intel NVM vice president Bill Leszinske said. “And we know end users will find exciting ways to take advantage of the drive to do great things.”

To promote the drives to gamers, Intel is partnering with developer Rober Space Industries to show the benefits of the 900P SSDs with the massive, unfinished space sim Star Citizen.

“The Intel Optane SSD 900P Series is amazingly fast — easily the fastest drive I have ever used,” Robert Space Industries chief executive officer Chris Roberts said. “Our Star Engine developers have been working on technology to improve loading times using new techniques developed for Star Citizen and optimized for the Intel Optane SSD 900P Series, which is the fastest SSD we’ve tested.”

Intel and Robert Space Industries are showing off the SSD at the Star Citizen fan event CitizenCon in Frankfurt today, and the two companies plan to give away a free in-game ship to everyone who buys a 900P drive for a limited time.
