Homes evacuated amid Okla. City grass fire
Homes evacuated amid Okla. City grass fire:- Firefighters in Oklahoma City were asking residents on the city’s southeast side to leave their homes on Sunday after a grass fire burned nearly 900 acres.
No injuries were immediately reported, but Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson said the fire was burning southward.
Two mobile homes were partially burned and two outbuildings destroyed, but no houses, Fulkerson told The Oklahoman.
The fire was not considered contained by sundown, although it was not spreading, The Oklahoman reported.
The fire's cause was unknown.
Fulkerson told The Associated Press that 60 to 70 Oklahoma City firefighters were joined by firefighters from about a dozen nearby departments. National Guard helicopters were being deployed to dump water on hot spots, KOCO-TV reported.
The fire also threatened mobile homes in the area, as well as a salvage yard containing vehicles and tires, The Oklahoman reported.
