Artists who advanced from this round will compete in the Live Playoffs.
Tuesday night marked the final night of the Knockout Round on NBC’s The Voice season 13. Coaches Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Miley Cyrus had all used their steals heading into the night, while coach Jennifer Hudson had one steal remaining. As a key advisor, Kelly Clarkson helped prepare the artists for their solo Knockout performances.
First up was Team Jennifer with performances from Chris Weaver and Katrina Rose. Weaver chose to sing Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You,” and he already sounded and looked confident in rehearsal. In his final performance, Weaver sang beautifully and with conviction. It was a very strong note to start the evening on. Rose sang “Zombie” by The Cranberries. Clarkson was blown away by Rose’s big voice in rehearsal. Rose’s final performance was stellar, but Hudson could only choose one, and she went with Weaver. Rose was eliminated.
Team Blake followed with performances from two very different country artists: Megan Rose and Red Marlow. Rose, who has a more contemporary sound, fittingly sang a Carrie Underwood song. Her take on “Smoke Break” was solid, though unimaginative. She put a lot of power behind her vocals. Marlow sang Craig Campbell’s “Outskirts of Heaven,” remarking in rehearsal that he’s a country “as a wheelbarrow full of turnip greens.” Shelton chose him as the champion, and Rose went home.
Team Adam closed out the night with Knockout performances from Anthony Alexander and Hannah Mrozak. Alexander chose to sing “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes, and Clarkson and Levine helped him with his dynamics in rehearsal. His final performance was very strong, showcasing his range and tone. His falsetto sounded particularly good, which is always the sign of a good Team Adam contestant. Mrozak sang “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna, which was an ambitious song choice, but she worked hard in rehearsal to make sure she was covering all her bases. Levine chose Alexander to advance, but Hudson swooped in to use her final steal, nabbing Mrozak for Team Jennifer.
