Deadpool 2 director on why Josh Brolin landed roles in both Marvel and Fox comic book franchises:-  Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has explained why Josh Brolin is allowed to cross over into both the Marvel and Fox comic universes.

Josh made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy as Thanos, before popping up the following year in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It was announced on Monday (31Jul17) that Josh will be back as Thanos for the as yet untitled fourth Avengers flick, slated for a 2019 release, by which time he’ll have already begun his run as Cable in Fox’s Deadpool film franchise opposite Ryan Reynolds‘ anti-hero.

“I think everybody in sort of the Marvel and Fox world considered it, and they take their time and make measured moves,” David explained to Screen Rant of the dual casting. “But I think everyone thought it was prudent and was O.K. in terms of the way Thanos is portrayed and Cable is portrayed. They’re very different in styles, and in terms of the way they are presented in the movies, obviously.

“We couldn’t have cast a better Cable. We were filming last night and both of them (Josh and Ryan) were on set, and the chemistry is amazing. It’s such a fun movie to be on. I’m really grateful.”

For Cable, Josh has had to bulk up his frame, whereas when he plays supervillain Thanos he shoots in a motion capture suit.

The 49-year-old Oscar nominee isn’t the first actor to straddle two different comic book franchises, as Ryan himself has dabbled in the different worlds; first in Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then in DC Comics‘ Green Lantern before returning to Fox.

Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, and Chris Evans have also appeared in two franchises.
