Samsung sweetens pot to get Note 7 owners to return their phone:- It’s well past time to return your Note 7. Samsung is sweetening the deal for owners if they haven’t got the message.
On Thursday the company upped its return offer to $100 in credit if you trade in your Note 7 for a different Samsung device like the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge. The move is made in two parts: first to encourage people to give up their risky Note phones and also to try and keep them with Samsung.
Those who ask for a full refund or switch to another manufacturer’s phone will receive $25.
“Customers’ safety remains a top priority and we ask consumers with an original or replacement Galaxy Note7 to power down and take advantage of the remedies available,” says Tim Baxter, president and chief operating officer, Samsung Electronics America in a statement announcing the full recall.
Many users USA TODAY has spoken with over the past week indicated that they don’t think the issue would affect them, that it’s a numbers game. Making the double recall all the more painful for Samsung, the Note 7 had engendered a loyal following for its speed, water resistance, curved screen and great cameras.
The problem: Samsung has given no indication on what’s causing these explosions or how to avoid them.
Still not convinced? Note the unusual nature of the return process if you return by mail. Samsung is sending fireproof boxes to customers who requested returns, complete with gloves and a static shielding bag.
